Build 5: Installing a floppy drive
We have not talked about floppy drives so far, and for a reason: Today, they are outdated compared to writing on CDs. How did they get the name?
Back in history, they were big disks, wrapped in cardboard; you could bend them; Hence the name. The last model was the 5 1/4 size disk, wrapped in gard plastic.
However, should you want one; heck, we can install that too!
Let’s take a look at the different cables we will be working with first.
This is a standard floppy cable with 24 wires. You will notice that some of the wires have been flipped around. This is how the computer knows the difference between floppy A and floppy B. Find the connector on the motherboard and plug it in.
Let’s get our floppy drive installed first. There is usually a designated spot in the chassis for these components to be installed. This particular case has the drive on the top.
You will notice that the drive uses the smaller power supply connector.
Plug it into the drive, and you're done.
